Cobh Golf Club’s Captain’s Prize for Juniors

Published

On Wednesday, 14 July, the annual Captain’s Prize for the Juniors was held, and many played to win this prestigious title. Winner in the girls section was Megan Foley, and the boys prize was won by David Meaney. The titles were won after brilliant competition with great participation. Congratulations to the winners and all those who participated! An important part of Cobh Golf Club’s activities is the work with the Junior Golfers. A special “Junior Coaching Program” was run in May and June, whereby a total of 41 Boys and Girls participated.

The program, which was run over a 6 week period, was based on the ‘Munster Golf Development Model’ devised by the Munster Branch of the Golfing Union of Ireland.  Under the watchful eye of The Club professional, the Boys and Girls were coached in the basic fundamentals of the game, from correct grip and stance, to pitching, chipping and putting. The Program was an enormous success and this was due not only to the professionalism of our Coach and the enthusiastic participation of the Boys and Girls concerned, but also to the commitment of the Clubs Juvenile Officers, Tim McCormack and Christine Cronin.  It is hoped to organise more Junior Coaching Programs at ‘Beginner and Advanced level during the Summer School Holiday period.’

The picture shows the 2 winners David Meaney and Megan Foley, with Captain Ger Curley in the middle, also Junior Officers Tim McCormack, Christine Cronin and Tony Hughes of CGC Junior Academy.
