Another good weekend for the Club with the Div 4 team advancing to the semi-final of the Cup and Div 6 having a well earned draw.
Cobh travelled to Waterford in the Cup and came away on a 5-0 scoreline. The score belies the fact that this was not an easy game as Waterford took the game to Cobh in the first half. Overall however Cobh were deadly accurate from set play and four goals from short corners – two from Emma Mackey and two from Aoife Hart put the game beyond doubt. The final goal from play was a well worked move involving several players with Emma Mackey finishing off.
Div 6 travelled to take on Belvedere and this proved to be a tough encounter. Cobh were on top in the first half but Belvedere had some chances and goalie Ger Curtin made a couple of nice saves. Belvedere came into their own in the second half and put a lot of pressure on. It was Belvedere who went ahead after about 15mins but Cobh never gave up and Capt Caroline Green urged her team on to get the equaliser. With about 5 mins remaining this paid off when Caroline scored from close range to make it 1-1. A fine performance from Chelsea Crone earned her the player of the game from her team mates but overall it was a great team effort.
Next week see Div 6 in the Div 6 Plate Final against Limerick which takes place in Midleton College at 2pm on Sunday. Supporters more than welcome!
