Cobh is a dream destination, just a few minutes from the golfing action at Fota Island Resort and will be enjoyed by thousands of people over the next few days.
Cobh Tourism started planning early so that Cobh will benefit from this major sporting occasion. Through lobbying both the European Tour and the Midleton Area Division of the Gardai we feel that the traffic management plan will make it easy for those leaving the Golf Course throughout the day to visit Cobh.
The 18,000 official programmes of the tournament will have an inserted flyer outlining Cobh’s charms and myriad attractions. This flyer was funded by the businesses of Cobh. It sets the scene as follows: Less than ten minutes from Fota by road or rail, Cobh is everything that you would expect from a seaside town nestled on the shores of one of the world’s finest natural harbours.
But Cobh is so much more. Cobh’s story is entwined with world history – the Titanic, Lusitania and the emigration of so many Irish people from the town’s quays have seen to this. The unique architecture, piers and buildings of Cobh have changed little since the era of the Titanic. The magnificent St. Colman’s Cathedral perched on the hillside, brightly painted houses, stunning flower displays, non stop activity on the water, waterside parks, scenic walks or even a boat trip to Spike Island make for a relaxed visit. Our waterside hotels, restaurants, cafés and cosy pubs will satisfy every taste.
Cobh’s world class tourist activities and attractions make it an absolute “must see” destination for anyone visiting the Irish Open. Exploring all that Cobh has to offer is great value with the new combo ticket. A top ten finalist in the Fáilte Ireland Tourism Towns competition in 2013 and consistently reaching the top tier of the National Tidy Towns competition Cobh excels at welcoming visitors. For the finest setting, the finest food and the finest welcome, visit Cobh.
All 16 official sellers of the programme are Cobh people. These were recruited by Cobh Tourism and will allow an unrivalled opportunity to give information about Cobh if asked for local knowledge. Cobh Animation team will also be present throughout the four day championship, no doubt attracting much attention. The new sign opposite the exit of Fota Wildlife Park enticing people to visit Cobh will continue to work long after the 2014 Irish Open Golf
