It is with great excitement that we are finally in a position to announce the proposed site of Cobh’s New Playground facility.
After discussing many options and reviewing many potential sites both Cork County Council and the Cobh Playground Fundraising Committee have reached a mutual agreement and have concluded that the best site available is the Five Foot Way (Deep Water Quay).
There were a number of factors which lead to this decision, most predominantly the fact that this site has already been ring-fenced for a playground development which will allow us to get this project up and running within a relatively short time-frame.
We have been granted a substantial increase on the site size, over 250% increase on the existing playground which will mean that we can include a far greater range of equipment giving all the children of the town a playground of the highest quality.
Our design will include a total redevelopment of the site, the existing playground will therefore be demolished and in its place a new large state of the art facility will be created.
The Municipal District Officer Mr Paraig Lynch & Executive Engineer Robert O’Sullivan have been most generous with their advice and support. Combine that with the united support of all the Local Elected Representatives but most of all the overwhelming generosity and goodwill of the people of Cobh fills us with belief that we will deliver something Cobh will be extremely proud of.
Currently we are meeting with design companies & engineers, the only obstacle we are facing is funding for this project which could cost almost €180,000.
We have raised €37,000 which is a massive achievement. We cannot express how extremely grateful for all the support we have received to date from the local community and local businesses.
However our fundraising will continue and intensify over the coming year so your continued support will be all the more vital. The more funds we generate locally, the more entire community is seen to support us, the more this will strengthen our grant applications.
We hope this update is welcomed by all the community, as the project progress will we continue to give regular updates on our Facebook page, Twitter and Local Media. We intend to run a public meeting to present our plans to you in the near future so we look forward to speaking to you all.
The Playground our children, grandchildren deserve is within our grasp and is more achievable now than ever.
Thank you,
Ger Maher
