The Cobh-Ploermel Twinning Association recently held its AGM. Officers elected were:President, Joe Mac Coitir; Vice-President, David Verling; Sec.,Nadine Haberlin; Asst. Sec. and PRO Siún Mac Coitir; Treasurer, Eileen Dorrity; Asst. Treasurer, Ann Dillon. The Association would like to thank the Prayer and Pastoral Centre and Walterstown Community Association for the use of their facilities for meetings and functions.
The Association maintains contact and visits its corresponding association in Ploermel and their members visit Cobh. Last July 30 Cobh members visited Ploermel and had a most enjoyable week with host families – enjoyable evenings of singing and Irish and Breton dancing , coupled with trips to places of interest and beautiful weather. The highlight of the week was on France’s National Holiday, 14th July, which started with a wreath-laying ceremony by the Mayor of Ploermel and Cobh Deputy Mayor, Cll. Finbarr O’Driscoll. This was followed by a civic reception in Ploermel and a wonderful day’s celebration in the village of Campeneac outside Ploermel – pig-roast, singing, dancing and fireworks. The current Mayor of Ploermel is Béatrice La Marre who spent some time in Cork and Cobh in the 80’s. The Ploermel Association will visit Cobh in 2013.

We welcome new members. Just contact 086/8115154 or 4812108 or any member. Membership costs €5.

The Annual Christmas Raffle will be held again next month – the usual prizes of hampers, vouchers, bottles, biscuits etc..
