19th April saw two landmark events take place in the town of Cobh…..The first of these was our very own Cobh Pirates victoriously beating Munster Rugby Juniors in an exciting game of rugby! Secondly the Family Fun Day that took place at The Paddocks that day, to coincide with the rugby, was thoroughly enjoyed by the many supporters who turned up on the day. Many of whom had the chance to mingle with some very well-known rugby celebrities!

Families were treated to a wide range of entertainment from bouncy castles to food stalls to face-painting, not to mention the very exciting sky dive onto the pitch with the match ball! This sky dive was organised by Dave Campbell (Campbell Electrical & TV) and was carried out by the Irish Parachute Club. Entertainment that evening was very kindly provided by Cobh’s own Dirty Secret and DJ Cormie G.

In excess of €4,100 was raised on the day for local Suicide Prevention Training Group Breaking The Silence, and all of these monies will go directly to the provision of free training programmes to all members of the community. Cobh Pirates and Breaking The Silence would like to extend our sincere thanks to everybody who supported this event on the day and to the many sponsors including Bellavista House Hotel, Paul Histon (Cobh Bouncy Castles), Cobh (Great Island) Community Centre, Irish Parachute Club, Peter Kidney, The Crepe Man, Cobh Heritage Centre, Catriona Murtagh, Wisser Bins, Pepsico, Keen House and Keen On Sport. Breaking The Silence would like to also sincerely thank Cobh Pirates for nominating the group as the beneficiary of this successful fundraiser. Finally our thanks to Michael Bardsley (Cobh Edition) who was MC on the day, and to Martin O’Leary and Colm McDonagh who both took photographs for this event.
