Cobh Tidy Towns – a new look!

ttnewDespite the damp start to Saturday we had 16 volunteers out around Cobh. We were delighted to put on our NEW Cobh Tidy Towns vests with our logo. They are kindly sponsored by a local Cork business and we are very grateful for their support. Don’t we look very smart?! Some of our team swept leaves and debris from the footpaths by the Rinn Ronan in Rushbrooke. Rubbish was gathered at Cows Cross and the road was swept approaching Supervalu. Work was continued at the Top of the Hill where powerwashing of footpaths in association with some of the businesses there was done.

Volunteers today worked in the seaside gardens of the Sirius Arts Centre. The Old Yacht Club is a very historic and iconic building in the centre of Cobh. Cobh Tidy Towns recently held discussions with the Sirius Arts Centre with a view to getting the garden areas to the east and back of the building area tidied up and the rusting chainlink fencing on the water side removed. Cosmetic work is also needed to east wing pending a full renovation of this space. A partnership approach was agreed, where Tidy Towns volunteers would make the garden areas presentable and Sirius Arts Centre would have the fencing removed and a more aesthetic temporary alternative put in its place. It is hoped that new soffit will be installed and art added to the boarded up windows in the east wing before the judging of the Ireland’s Tidiest Towns competition in May and that the gardens will be pristine and colourful thanks to the hard work and green fingers of our volunteers.

Cobh Tidy Towns AGM will be on Thursday 21st February  8pm in the Parish Centre. Lets work together for a successful 2013 in Cobh.
