Cobh Tidy Towns – Beachcombing and our Bug Hotel

Published

on

On Saturday morning Tidy towns volunteers broke into several groups and tackled a few jobs around Cobh. More of the bollards were given a fresh coat of black paint in Pearse Square. Thanks to Gilberts for the cups of tea! The bank out by the Old Church Cemetery was weeded and more perennial flowers and shrubs were planted. In the Church Cemetery we found a nice spot to build our Bug Hotel which will encourage the wildlife out there to take up residence!

The recent stormy weather had washed up a lot of litter on the beach at Carrigaloe so we gathered 16 bags of litter out there. 1 bag of glass bottles was collected and 1 bag of drink cans both of which were disposed of at the recycling amenity in Whitepoint. The bulk of the rubbish at Carrigaloe was plastic bottles.Using reusable drink containers would reduce hugely the waste we see around our roads and beaches.More areas of criminal damage with illegal grafitti were addressed by Tidy Towns today.A stunning framed photo by David Jones of the Titanic Centenary Mural was donated to Cobh Tidy Towns by a local business.Today this was presented in gratidtue to the artist Jack Hickey. Thanks to all who came out this morning.
