tidytowns600x4001This Saturday 15 volunteers were out and about in Cobh, keeping the momentum of the Tidy Towns effort moving along. In support of the Clean Coasts Big Beach Clean 2013, the beach at Carrigaloe was picked of litter and the spent Red Hot Pokers stems in the shrub beds were removed. At the other end of town the East Hill Residents’Association were helped to remove corrugated iron from the collapsed sheds from the beach at the Holy Ground.

Last week Herbie Plummer cleared the forest floor at Cow’s Cross with his machine and today we planted 1000 bluebells in the hope of spectacular results in the spring. Could this be the start of a Keukenhof in Cobh?
The entire length of Roche’s Row and Harbour View was swept. American Tourists from the Vision of the Seas were astounded at the amount of cigarette butts on Harbour View, otherwise they were very complementary about Cobh.

Our Wednesday evening work nights have concluded until the spring, but we will continue working every Saturday morning right throughout the autumn and winter. Everyone is invited to join us. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2013 Cobh and Great Island Tidy Districts. Well done to all the winners who were awarded prizes in Cobh Heritage Centre last Thursday. Thanks to Cobh Heritage Centre for the hospitality , Cobh Credit Union & Cobh Town Council for their ongoing support and our adjudicator Terry O Regan for his superb presentation.
