Cobh Tidy Towns Notes

Published

on

rheightsEleven volunteers were out on Saturday morning taking full advantage of the short dry spell. The areas around St. Colman’s Cathedral, the Cathedral carpark and all the way to the Great Island Community Centre was cleaned. A very serious litter problem and dumping in laneways at the back of houses in a large housing estate was highlighted to Cobh Town Council management during the week. Cobh Tidy Towns offered to clean the public areas but cannot and will not clean the back lanes or remove the debris from a New Year’s Bonfire that included wheelie bins of rubbish. Twenty five bags were filled with litter, mud and weeds and the area (apart from the back lanes) looks much better.

Thank you to Karen who brought all the volunteers into her home for tea and biscuits. The flagpoles and flags flying outside the Community Centre look fantastic and provide a very welcoming entrance to the town. Many of the white sticks with reflectors have been replaced at the Cow Cross area and make the area safer and more presentable. See you again next Saturday at 10am on the Five Foot Way.
