Cobh Tidy Towns Review – Is Gold On The Horizon?

2012 has been another very positive year for Cobh and the winning by Cobh of a silver medal in the National Tidy Towns competition was a fantastic achievement. This accolade places Cobh in the top 80 of over 800 entries in this year’s competition. Some of the top 80 towns are large such as Killarney, Westport, Clonakilty and Ballincollig while many are small villages, so the people of Cobh can be justifiably proud. Cobh Tidy Towns volunteers meet on Saturday mornings at 10 am at the playground on the Five Foot Way and then go to tackle different task in various locations. It doesn’t suit everyone to join us at that time and many volunteers work on their own or in smaller groups at times that suit better. Others make a valuable contribution by maintaining their own homes and gardens and helping to keep their streets or estates looking well.

Cobh Tidy Towns would like to acknowledge the fantastic support and assistance received in 2012 from Cobh Credit Union, Cobh Town Council, residents, businesses and schools. For Cobh to achieve gold medal status in 2013 would be almost unprecedented. But rising from being Ireland’s “Dirtiest Town” to winning a bronze medal and then a silver medal in four years is also unprecedented. Through the combined efforts of the businesses and people of Cobh, we can achieve GOLD!
