Saturday the 27th saw one of the biggest and toughest races on the calender take place in Kilkee. Limerick Triathlon Club hosted what many consider to be the toughest race of the year the aptly named Hell of the West – a 1500 metre swim in Kilkee bay, followed by a 43km cycle around West Clare taking in Doonbeg, Creegh and Kilkee followed by a scenic but even more challenging 10km run with amazing Atlantic views.
The results were far from “hellish” for the Club. Michael Bruton won his age group race, Frances Buckley and Pat Bruton claimed second place in their rsepective age groups and Jess Bruton claimed the 3rd place in her age group category. Considering over 800 athletes from all over Ireland took to the start line these are indeed sterling performances from Cobh’s triathletes. Congrats also to Alma Worrall who completed her first Olympic Distance triathlon. So far from the Hell of the West it was more like Heaven all around from Cobh Triathlon Club!
