Cobh YMCA is pleased to announce the official World Premiere of a short film titled ‘Masked’. The film is the creation of the current STEP group who have been working on a project that focuses on the global issue of HIV and AIDS. It also coincides with One World Week, an annual national event coordinated by the National Youth Council, which highlights particular themes around justice and development. This years theme surrounds the use of images and the messages they convey. It is a theme that the trainees adopted in tackling the global issue of HIV using a very local and relevant setting. In what was, according to STEP coordinator James Bilson, ” a very challenging subject for young people to take on and try to relate to other young people, let alone using the medium of film”, the trainees have nevertheless seemingly achieved their brief. At a preview shown to a highly critical development education audience, the film was applauded and comments praising the quality of scripting, acting and the way in which the subject has been addressed were made.
You are invited to attend this public screening on Wednesday 17th November at 7pm in Cobh YMCA, 8 West Beach. The event will also feature guest speakers from Ireland and Zambia who will discuss the issue of HIV and AIDS in both a local and global context, before the showing of the film and then refreshments.
