Coral Leisure Cobh STATEMENT

coral2Dear Member/PAYG Customer,

As many of you will be aware we were forced into closing our swimming pool during the month of March due to quite a number of tiles lifting off the pool floor. We subsequently arranged for 4 separate companies who specialise in swimming pool tanks and floors to come in and assess the problem. Although we have used a specialist underwater adhesive to repair small sections in some of our other pools this was not considered an option for Cobh as the problem is too widespread and it would only have been a temporary fix. Following the recommendations received we drained our pool. This is not as simple as pulling a plug as due to the volume of water and the temperatures involved we had to ensure the pool was drained slowly over a 5 day period.

As soon as the pool was completely empty we arranged for each of the companies mentioned above to come back and reassess the issue and provide detailed reports including costings for the repair work. As with everything this took some time, firstly to get them on site and then to get their reports and I can assure you our management team on site were chasing them down daily.

The final report was received on Friday past and we immediately arranged a meeting with the board of Carrignafoy Leisure Ltd for Wednesday 7th May 2014. Like us they have been very keen to see this issue resolved ASAP but also in a manner that will last as the last thing anyone wants is a rushed temporary fix which could leave us in trouble again in the not too distant future.

At this meeting one of the afore mentioned companies were selected to come in ASAP to remove all the floor tiles currently in situ. We’ve already been in contact and they’ve promised to be here on Monday 12th May. They said the removal will take approx 2 days. As soon as the tiles have been removed we have a structural engineer on standby and ready to come in and carry out a full structural assessment of the pool tank to ensure there has been no building movement. If as we suspect the issue was adhesive and grout related and not structural the order will be given to retile the pool immediately as a company has already been selected. From retile to refill we have estimated 2 weeks.

Taking everything into consideration we are therefore hoping to have your pool back up and running in early June. As promised we will try to continue to communicate any new information as we receive it.

We want to apologise for the obvious inconvenience this is causing and assure you we are trying everything we can to speed the process up. Please be patient with our staff as this is a difficult time for them as well, as many are either temporarily laid off or on reduced working hours. This is not their fault and I can assure you there’s nothing they want more than to be back at work welcoming our members and PAYG Customers back into our fully operational facility.

Regards,

Coral Cobh Management Team
