Local Enterprise Office Cork City supported 140 new jobs in the city last year

Figures recently announced by Local Enterprise Office, Cork City show that 140 new jobs were created by its supported companies last year, a significant increase since the previous year. The 31 Local Enterprise offices, funded by the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation, are now supporting 7,400 client companies across the country.

In Cork City, 344 local entrepreneurs also received mentoring while 1,295 took part in training programmes through Local enterprise office, Cork City.
Paul Mc Guirk, head of Local enterprise office Cork City said ‘These figures continue to emphasise the positive impact the Local Enterprise Office is having on indigenous businesses across the county and indeed the country. Whether its training, mentoring funding or expert one-to-one advice, the Local Enterprise Offices can offer support for small businesses. We look forward to helping many more in 2020.’

One of the training programmes run by the local enterprise office in recent years is a tailored customer service programme, in conjunction with the Cork City Centre Forum. This contributed greatly last year to Cork City being awarded the title of ‘Ireland’s Friendliest Place’ by Retail Excellence Ireland. Two other participants, Vibes and Scribes Bookshop and Nano Nagle Visitor Centre, also won individual national awards. In recognition of this, Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr John Sheehan recently held a reception for the businesses who have undertaken the training and who are continuing to advance Cork City’s Customer Service Charter.

Ann Doherty, Chief Executive of Cork City Council said ‘Local Enterprise Offices play a major role in local authority efforts towards economic development, in partnership with Enterprise Ireland. It’s great to see more and businesses avail of their supports, developing and contributing to enterprise and employment locally.
