Declan Kidney has launched a newly developed programme by Cork ARC Cancer Support House in partnership with the Mardyke Arena, UCC, which aims to get men active after a prostate or bowel cancer diagnosis.
Speaking at the launch, Declan Kidney said, “I am delighted to see this programme being run. Cork ARC’s Get Active programme will provide information and exercises that are beneficial to men after cancer and will build their physical strength, flexibility and fitness. The aim is to support them to regain control and confidence, build manageable goals, and guide participants to sustain the changes that make a difference in their lives now and into the future.”
Lending his support to the programme, Cork ARC Trustee and Consultant Medical Oncologist Prof. Seamus O’Reilly says, “Taking part in physical activity before, during and after cancer can help you take back control and can improve cancer survival. The health benefits of Cork ARC’s programme will help you manage some of the effects of cancer and its treatments.”
Commencing on Monday 11th February 2019, this is a six week programme which will take place twice a week, and is completely free of charge. All participants will need to be minimum six weeks post-surgery. An individual assessment will be carried out prior to joining.
Eligibility is for men who have had a diagnosis of colon or prostate cancer.
For more information and for assessment, please contact Ellen Joyce, Director of Services at Cork ARC by phone on 021 427 6688 or 086 189 5790, email ellen@corkcancersupport.ie or by dropping into Cork ARC at ‘Cliffdale’, 5 O’Donovan Rossa Road, Cork, T12 KX97, open Monday – Friday.
