A meeting was held today with the town clerk and the town engineer who agreed to consult with a number of concerned members of the public regarding any future re-positioning of the disability spaces to facilitate new bus lanes in the town centre. It was organised by Cllr Michael Martin in response to representations made to him by concerned people with disabilities who thought from a recent article that the disability spaces in the town were being removed. The town clerk assured all present there would be no loss of spaces however as a result of decisions taken regarding bus lanes they may have to be moved. He welcomed suggestions from all present regarding location and type of space and further consultation was promised. In a broadening of the subject it was agreed to consult with the wheelchair association to look at all allocated spaces in the town. Councilors Sinead Shepherd and Paddy Whitty were also in attendance.
