Cobh Community Centre has been the hub of industrious creativity on a weekly basis following the launch of the One Book One Community in November last year. With the blessing of the centre´s manager Freda McDowall and under the expert direction of textile artist Carmel Creaner a craft group from the active retirement group otherwise know as the ‘Swells’ embarked on a most ambitious craft project. The result is a hauntingly beautiful patchwork quilt dedicated to the memory of the 123 passengers from all over Ireland who boarded the Titanic at Cobh.
The quilt is now in the last stage of preparation, with an hourly rota having been set up to complete the quilting stage. The final leg will take place in public when the quilt will be sewn together by the group. So watch this space if you want to experience an event to remember. *In association with Carrignafoy Community College One Book One Community `Spirit of the Titanic´ by Nicola Pierce a HSCL reading initiative under the NEWB. *
