On Saturday, 2nd October 2010 well known author, broadcaster and gardener, Helen Dillon will be the Keynote Speaker at the Fota House Autumn Gardening Seminar. Fota House is now well known for its biennial Gardening Seminars which have covered such topics as Garden Design, How a Garden is Formed, Exotic Plants, Ornamental Grasses and many others.
Helen Dillon has lectured in the USA, New Zealand, Germany France, Australia and the UK. She has been awarded the Gold Veitch Memorial Medal from the Royal Horticultural Society in England the George Robert White Medal of Honour from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society. Her Garden at 45 Sandford Road, Ranelagh, Dublin 6 has been open to the public for the last 25 years and her Garden Book was Robin Land Fox’s (of the Irish Times) Book of the Year. Helen will open the Seminar with her talk “Dig it up and throw it away”!
Brian Cross A.T.C., well known Garden Designer and Consultant, whose Garden “Lakemount” is open to the public will give a talk entitled “Extending the Season of Autumn Colour”.
The third Speaker, Oliver Schurmann runs Mount Venus Nursery in Dublin, with his wife Liat. The nursery has a reputation for providing variety and personal service and has become a favourite for enthusiastic gardeners, professional landscapers and designers throughout Ireland. Oliver and Liat have designed numerous show gardens, floral exhibits and trade fair stands. Their cutting edge designs have won many prestigious awards at RHS shows and Bloom in the Park and Oliver’s talk is entitled “From Show Gardens to Real Gardens”
Rare plants will be on sale from specialist nurseries before and after the Seminar and during the breaks.
This is an event not to be missed and while the theoretical part of the Seminar will take place in the morning, a complimentary guided walk through the Arboretum and Gardens of Fota, with Brian Cross, will be available in the afternoon.
