Following the success of this year’s Fota Island Challenge Series Sprint Duathlon in February, Fota Island Resort are hosting their second Challenge Series event of the year, the Forest Trail Run on Sunday June 28th 2015.
Taking place on the stunning grounds of Fota Island Resort, athletes from beginner to professional (over 18yrs) are invited to take part in the Challenge Series Forest Trail Run, a 8 km run taking athletes through unique wooded grounds of Fota Island Resort with lovely views and enchanted forested pathways.
Athletics Ireland sanctioned, the Fota Island Challenge Series Forest Trail Run starts at 10.00 a.m. sharp, pre-registration is available on www.fotaisland.ie/forest-trail-run and on the day, entry will be open from 8am to 9.30am in the Recreational Building at Fota Island Resort. Fee per participant is €7.50 pre entry and €12 on the day.Prizes will be awarded for 1st,2nd and 3rd overall male and female at the finish line. Prizes have been generously sponsored by a variety of organisations and companies, plus there will be an exciting announcement for the runners on the day!
Derived from the Irish words ‘fód te,’ meaning warm soil, Fota Island Resort benefits from the same excellent drainage and microclimate that has allowed the neighbouring Arboretum on Fota Island to flourish, with its collection of rare trees and plants, and enabled the Wildlife Park, just around the corner on the same little island, host its own exotic specimens.
Competing in the Forest Trail run on Fota Island will be a unforgettable and distinctive experience, running through tall oak trees and forested paths and, depending on the weather and the prevailing winds, parts of the race might happen to the unusual soundtrack created by some of the wild animals in Fota Wildlife Park!
With tea, coffee and biscuits available for participants after the race, plus water stations, showers and plenty of free parking, Fota Island Resort ensure the Forest Trail Run race will be as efficient and well-run as February’s successful Challenge Series Sprint Duathlon and the 2014 Challenge Series Sprint Duathlon. A great day out for athletes of all abilities, their families, supporters and friends, all of whom are very welcome on the day!
Fota Island Resort offer excellent accommodation packages for those who are travelling to take part in the Challenge Series Forest Trail Run, with the added bonus of access to the world-class spa at the Resort to soothe any weary limbs! Avail of fabulous bed and breakfast packages from €214, visit www.fotaisland.ie for more information.
Registration, detailed maps of run and further information will be available on www.fotaisland.ie/forest-trail-run
