Cllr John Mulvihill Jnr has welcomed the swift action of cobh town council and cork co council following his motion calling for a plan to be put in place for grit distribution in Cobh.
I am pleased to confirm that there is grit available for the public to use in their own localities in the following sites. Five foot way, smalls well, end of ballywilliam hill and half way up Ballynoe Hill at the entrance sewage pump station.
I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the council staff for their efforts in getting these sites in place so quickly following my request at monday nights meeting.
This grit is only to be used on roads and footpaths where ice is present .
I have also been informed that main road r624 and the back road (Ballard Road) are on the county councils salt/griting list. As always Cobh town council will also be gritting the urban area. I have requested that where possible all approach roads to where the grit sites will be also gritted to ensure access. As we approach the weekend I want to thank the staff of Cobh and Cork co council for the work they will be doing over the cold spell, by us all doing our bit we can ensure Cobh is a safer place.
I have also been assured if the sites run low Cork County coCncil will endever to get fresh supply in depending on over all supply.
finally I would encourage all of us to call to our elderly neighbours to ensure they have every thing they need if as is forecast the cold spell comes it is vital we as a community pull together as I know we will to ensure our community grow closer together through this cold spell.
