The Garda Supporting Safer Communitites Campaign is currently taking place. I would be obliged if you could publish the following specific facts and tips on crime and road safety in the next edition of your newsletter.
FACT 1 OF 10: Half of Fatal road collisions happen between 4pm on Friday and 6am on Monday. ALWAYS drive at an appropriate speed and watch out for pedestrains and cyclists.
FACT 2 OF 10: SPEED KILLS! 1% REDUCTION IN SPEED= 2% Fewer minor injury collisions 3% Fewer serious injury collisions, and 4% Fewer Fatal collisions.
FACT 3 OF 10: Alcohol and drugs impair your driving and increase the risk of collision. NEVER ever drive after taking alcohol or drugs – be especially careful the morning after.
FACT 4 OF 10: You are four times more likely to have a crash if you use a mobile phone while driving. ALWAYS switch off before you drive off.
FACT 5 OF 10: In one third of all burglaries, entry is gained through the front door. ALWAYS use a mortice lock on front doors.
FACT 6 OF 10: Your home is most likely to be burgled on Thursday or Friday. ALWAYS ask a neighbour or friend to check on your house if you are going away.
FACT 7 OF 10: In one third of burglaries, entry is gained through an unsecured door or window. ALWAYS ensure doors and windows are locked when leaving your home.
FACT 8 OF 10: Saturday is the most common day for thefts from parked cars. ALWAYS take your valuables with you when parking your car.
FACT 9 OF 10: Midday to 9pm is the most common time for parked cars to be broken into. ALWAYS ensure that all windows and doors are locked when leaving your car.
FACT 10 OF 10: More than 3,000 bicycles were stolen in the capital last year. ALWAYS secure your bike to an immoveable object using a good quality lock.
