After a recent successful meeting, it has been decided that as a first step in creating and raising funds for proposed walks on the island, to make a submission for funding to SECAD in order to upgrade and improve the already established popular walk known locally as the ‘21 Ditches’.
As many of your readers are aware this walk has a special place in the local folk memory and has long links with our heritage and local history. It has been walked by generations of Great Islanders and hopefully with funding, proper accessibility and structures will be put in place to maintain and enhance this walk for present and future generations.
Anybody interested in getting involved in this worthy project will be most welcome and can contact me, Jim at 086 0854720. This proposed project has been endorsed by many local and national sporting community and cultural bodies.
