Group Violin Project for Scoil Iosaef Naofa

Published

on

A new musical venture began in Scoil Iosaef Naofa last month with pupils from Rang a hAon taking part in a violin programme. The aim in setting up the violin course is that the children will have fun learning to play a musical instrument, experiencing the pleasure of playing in a group with class-mates while learning musical skills. The violin programme is a hands-on musical activity, linked into the Primary School Music Curriculum. The boys have a regular timetabled weekly group lesson. The school has recently acquired an instrument bank of 20 violins; and a partnership, formed with County Cork VEC, supplies the services of violin teacher at Cobh Community College, Ciaran Deloughry. Music teachers from the VEC have already been teaching musical instruments in the school since 1986. The group violin initiative is an exciting new music-for-all development.

This year´s Rang a hAon is the pilot group for the music project. As the classes move on the project will grow so that eventually that all boys from 1st to 6th class will be included in the group violin programme. Exciting and musical times are ahead for the school!
