The pay parking machines installed by Cobh Town Council over the past few months throughout the town of Cobh are due to be commissioned over the next week and will be fully operational before Monday 6 December. The machines, which were installed following a public tender process, will provide an additional service to people parking in the town centre. It should be noted that the parking disks which are currently for sale in a number of outlets in the town continue to be valid, and will remain valid until the end of 2011.
Once the new machines are in operation, the Council will be enforcing the new pay parking bye laws. These bye laws, which were adopted by the members of the Town Council in 2010, replace the existing bye laws. The main provision of the new Bye Laws as adopted are:
- Pay parking will be introduced to part of the Five Foot Way carpark – persons parking in the relevant sections of the Five Foot Way can either pay hourly (€1 per hour including VAT) or daily (€7 including VAT per day).
- It will be possible to purchase an annual permit for €30 for the Five Foot Way Carpark. Application forms are available to purchase from the Council offices, Carrig House.
- The section of the Five Foot Way carpark adjacent to the playground will be free to facilitate parents bringing their children to the playground, but a new 2 hour time limit will apply in this area.
- The Five Foot Way is the only new area where pay parking is being introduced – all other areas covered by the Bye Laws were included in the previous Bye Laws.
- The first hour per calendar day that a person parks will be free of charge. A fee of €1 per hour will apply from that time. The existing time limits on streets in the pay parking areas will continue to apply.
- As previously, Residents in pay parking areas will be able to purchase a Resident’s Parking Permit from the Council. The annual fee for the permit will be €30. Application forms are available at the Council offices, Carrig House.
- Persons carrying out construction/refurbishment works to properties in pay parking areas will be able to purchase a Construction Parking Permit – the fee for this is €20 per parking space per day (similar to the previous Bye Laws)
