startThe organising committee of the ‘Great Island 10 Mile Road Race’ would like to take this opportunity to advise the people of Cobh and the Great Island of some likely disruption to traffic on Sunday 13th April between 10.00am – 1.00pm approximately. This race is being arranged for the benefit of the Irish Cancer Society, with special emphasis on palliative care.

The organisers are working closely with Cobh Town Council and Cobh Gardai to ensure that the event will be arranged as safely as possible and every effort will be made to minimise any inconvenience to the general public. We would ask people to be patient for the duration of the race and to cooperate with stewards.

The race will start at 10.30am from just before the Coral Leisure Centre turning left down Ballywilliam and then right towards Cuskinny, then up the hill and out the Valley Road, turning left at the end and through Ballymore Village, straight all the way to Lissanisky, turning left onto the back road into Cobh, turning right at Cow Cross onto the Tay Road, straight onto the main road at Ballynoe Bridge, turning left onto the main road heading to town and finishing by the GPO to disco music.

We will be looking for around 80 stewards to help out on the day. Anyone who has a few hours to give for this great cause can contact Peter Kavanagh on 086 3654633 We have approximately 40 volunteers committed so far but need to bring this number up to 80 stewards along the race route.

The main focus of this event is to raise money for this great cause so if you feel you can’t run it then come out and walk it or alternatively take part in the 5km family fun run / walk which leaves from the Community Centre at 10.00am and finishes in the town square where we will await the arrival of the 10 mile runners to disco music.

Anyone with any queries regarding the above event can contact Eamonn Crotty on 087 9863805

Your support is much needed for this great cause!!!!
