Keogh, Donnachie & Baby Defeat ‘The Wizard’ Osborne

The High Chaperal bar played host to professional darts player Colin Osborne on Friday evening to raise much needed funds for Cobh Hospital. Osborne, who made his World Championship debut in 2007, reaching the semi-final only to be beaten by Andy Jenkins, took time out of a busy tour schedule to play local players in the charity event.

Fifteen players representing a variety of local Darts associated bars had been nominated to take part, each turning in sponsorship cards for their chance to play the professional, with the remaining five players auctioned off. Willie O’Hanlon successfully bid €120 for Dave Donnachie, whom also took away the signed darts board that had been in use throughout the night. Dave also happened to be one of only three local player to beat Osborne. The other two being Chris Keogh and James ‘Baby’ Young.

Adding a professional touch to the event was the cloud of smoke that each player had to walk through on approach to the stage, whilst their own personal theme tune sounded out through a standing room only venue. Cobh No1 Mark Hurley who plays his darts at the Village Inn came close but was unable to beat ‘The Wizard’.

Put together by Richie McGrath and Aide Walsh, this event brought together local players of all ages giving everyone a chance to play against a professional.  “It’s a great opportunity for the younger players in the league to experience the pressure of an important match”, said Richie.

At the last count it was estimated that in excess of €1500 had been turned in, with a final total to be announced at a later date. The organisers, players etc etc would also like to take this opportunity to thank James & Yvonne Cahill for all of their help with the event.
