Letters To Cobh Edition – Stroke Victim Has Cobh Parking Ticket Case Dismissed

Published

Dear Editor,

On Thursday, the 26th of April my husband Oliver had to go to Midleton Court for a traffic violation. The ticket was given to my husband for parking on a loading bay outside Centra Post Office in Cobh where he went in to collect his disability allowance as he had a stroke 15 years ago. He normally parks in the disabled spot but it was taken so he was forced to use the loading bay, as he can’t walk very far without his wheelchair.

Oliver McKiernan Has Parking Ticket Court Case Dismissed

The Traffic Warden could have warned him but he watched him park and enter and walk slowly into Centra and a week later we received a fine in the post. We appealed it on the grounds of his inability to walk any long distance and got no reply until we got the Court summons. When we got to Court the case was dismissed on the grounds of my husbands disability, which the Traffic Warden said in Court he was aware of. Is the Council so stuck for revenue that they have to stoop so low as to penalise disabled people who are trying to do their business in town?
