Marching Band Enjoy Successful Return To Cobh

The American Shorecrest High School Marching Band returned to Cobh on March 19th. Arriving in four coaches, the band of 120 musicians together with their parents and teachers arrived early and every one of them did  Michael Martin’s Titanic Trail Guided Walking Tour of Cobh and marvelled at the wonderful history of the town. The High School, based in Shoreline, Washington USA take an overseas trip every 4 years to give their music students an international experience. They marched in the St Patrick’s day parade in Dublin where they won the accolade of ‘Best Youth Band’ in the whole parade. In Limerick the following day they were voted  best ‘International Band’.

Having also marched in the Celbridge parade they still agreed to Michael Martin’s request to march in Cobh, he said, ‘this was a fantastic occasion for the town with all the benefits of culture,  commerce and great musical performance to boot !’. It was an outstanding performance. The weather held up and the band amazed and entertained visitors and residents alike with their repertoire of Irish and American  tunes. Later the Cobh Mayor, Councillor Jim Quinlan afforded the group a civic welcome in the Commodore Hotel. Having come in like a whirlwind they left town at 4pm having enchanted all who saw them on the town and on the promenade in Cobh that day..
