A new highly informative and interactive web site for Dr. Michael Martin’s ‘Titanic Trail’ goes live this week. Titanic.ie highlights Cobh’s association with the tragedy of the sinking of RMS Titanic in1912 and promises to help increase visitor interest in Cork as a premier tourism destination.

“Awareness of Cork’s association with the Titanic’s last port of call needs to be promoted worldwide, and with the 100th anniversary commemoration taking place in 2012, the launch of this new marketing project is ideal,” noted Michael Martin. “It is an original and novel site, promoting an authentic Titanic experience. With links to many local businesses and tourism interests, it also promises superior marketing opportunities for the whole area. It is an investment that I hope will bring benefits to the whole community, especially to the people of Cobh.”

Along with greatly expanded information on the Titanic Trail and local tourism attractions, there are also many other innovative sections on the site. Full booking facilities for the guided walking tours are now offered online and feature a special commemoration tour to mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic in 2012. In addition, a shopping facility, featuring authentic Titanic collectables will now be available for visitors to the site. The merchandise includes a unique collection of Fr. Brown prints of the Titanic’s last voyage, Dr. Martin’s ‘Titanic Trail Booklet,’ a specially commissioned DVD of Spike Island and a world exclusive limited edition print of the Titanic in Cork Harbour by well know Cork artist, Kevin Sanquest.

The project management of the web development was undertaken by Margot Mulcahy, of MDMpr, and recruiting for web design companies began late last year. Fireball Media were awarded the contract and work on the new site commenced in January. Margot commented. “Michael and Jaclyn Ward from Fireball settled on a design that suited all requirements and we quickly got to work on the content building. Fortunately, both Michael and I both had a large selection of images that we could use, including video clips.” Margot went on to note, “Social Media plays a big role on the new site and features Twitter, Facebook and a WordPress Blog. In addition, Michael has included the new web audio social media platform ‘Audioboo.’ This allows you to record an upload audio to share – for the rest of the world to hear!”

Going forward, Michael plans to further enhance the E-commerce capabilities of Titanic.ie and is currently looking at developing an app for iPhone and android mobiles. Special offers will also be promoted on the site, linking with other tourism interests in the area. Also in the pipeline will be provision of regular and informative online newsletters.
