Rebel Riders Near 50k For Marymount – 3rd September

Once again this year, Cobhman John McCarthy and the Rebel Riders MCC were out in force doing their bit for Marymount Hospice as they held their 4th Annual motorcycle run from Dunne Stores in Ballyvolane to Macroom to raise much needed funds for the Cork based facility.

With a a target of €50,000 in mind from the outset four years ago, the group had reached €46,100 before a wheel had turned on Saturday and anticipation was high that come Saturday evening the magical 50k mark would be hit as they continued to collect in Macroom town centre. The previous weekend SuperValu Cobh played host to the MCC where collections, ongoing through the day on Saturday raised another €2,100.

The damp and dull weather no doubt attributed to a decrease in participants this year as approximately 70 bikes lined up in the Dunne Stores carpark for a 12.00pm off. Organiser John McCarthy was as upbeat as ever when he told Cobh Edition ‘Turnout is down on last year but is still very good considering the weather. As usual we’re delighted to be able to do this annual run for Marymount and we’re hoping to hit the €50,000 mark by the end of the day today. For the MCC is an incredible achievement and I would like to thank everyone for all the support over the past few years. We should know next week when the counting finishes, if we hit the 50k mark or not. We all lokk forward to the run agai next year’
