Rebel Riders Revving Up For Sept 3rd Marymount Run!

The Annual run for Marymount Hospice will take place on Saturday the 3rd September 2011. The route will be from Dunnes Stores – Ballyvolane to Macroom Town Centre. The group will be meeting up for the sign-in process from 11.00am at the Dunne’s car park and will be travelling onto Macroom at 12.00pm. To date the Riders have reached €44,000 for Marymount and are hoping to increase this to an astounding €55,000 this year. About The Rebel Riders

The Rebel riders M.C.C. was formed in Midleton in late 1996, quickly building into a solid group.Tragedy struck on 22nd October 1997 when club member Pete Curtin was killed while on his way to a Rally in Waterford. The club re-grouped after this and the next two years saw many new members join.

In 1999, Youghal based tattoo artist approached the club with the idea of holding a national tattoo show. This idea was quickly taken up and summer of 2000 saw the first annual “Rebel Riders International Tattoo Expo” take place at the Midleton Community Centre, with some of the best tattoo artists from Ireland and around the world taking place.

Four more shows followed with a Custom Bike, merchandise stands, food stalls and amusements being added. By the time the fifth and final show was held in 2004, it had developed into the biggest tattoo expo in the country, and by far the biggest social event in Midleton, with thousands of ordinary people coming to understand more about tattoo and bike culture than they would ever have done otherwise. After the 2004 show, it was decided that we couldn’t add anything more to the expo and it was taking a full week of members time to put it on, it was time to call a halt.

During the early 2000’s, we built up a very active club house in an unused warehouse we rented in Midleton. By the time we left it in 2005 it was one of the most popular night spots in Midleton. The club also held a series of annual rallies – During the early years they were held in Cobh, then the Half-Way outside Youghal and finally just outside Tallow in Co. Waterford. 15th July 2005 saw tragedy again hit the club when Liam Lee was killed off his bike. His funeral brought his native Cobh to a stand-still with representatives of clubs from around the country in attendance – something deeply appreciated by both club and Liam’s family.

2006 brought the opportunity to develop a club house in Cobh. A month’s hard work saw an old milking parlour change into a very comfortable club house/workshop. Like all clubs, members come and go as years pass – some are missed more than others, but new members have added a further dimension to the club. This website was fully designed in-house is just an example of our new talent. We continue to do some charity runs with local help group for suicide awareness and an orphanage in Thailand being the major beneficiaries in the last few years. So that’s the story so far – a club that’s undergone many changes, tried many different things and remains healthy and vibrant as we look forward to another year on the road.
