Published

on

Vitality Cobh, the second annual celebration of community participation and wellbeing in Cobh, took place yesterday (Sunday 17th June) on the Promenade in Cobh. In dry, sunny, sometimes glorious conditions, the Park was alive to the sound of traditional music from The Moroneys and The Great Island Fiddlers, the eclectic vocals of Cork Multicultural Choir, rap and modern tunes from the Ground Floor project in Cork YMCA and Viv Leahy singing some crowd pleasing classics. The event attracted young and old alike with a lot of families and younger children entertained by Funanza who did balloon modelling and juggling workshops and a team of face painters who were kept busy throughout the day. For the adults there was information on all health issues.

Twenty eight organisations covering areas ranging from yoga and meditation, to sports like triathlon, rugby and taekwondo, education and training programmes and support services for suicide, alcohol and drugs as well as youth organisations from the town. There were some great prizes from Fota Golf Club, Fota Wildlife Park, Kartmania, Keen Sports, Coral gym and Londis for people who found out the answers from the exhibitors, a dance Flash Mob descended on the Promenade and the vitality from the event meant that day lived up to its name. Planning Committee representative, James Bilson from Cobh YMCA said “The aim of the day is to highlight what is on offer to the Cobh community in terms of health services, sports and recreation, and personal and family supports and today’s event has really showcased in an energetic and vibrant way what great services and organisations we have here.”  The planning committee also thanked supporters and sponsors AIB, DePuy, Supervalu, Peter Kidney, Cobh Credit Union, Cork Mental Health Foundation, Cobh Town Council and all those who volunteered on the day. If people are interested in supporting or participating in next year’s event they are asked to contact vitalitycobh@gmail.com
