‘Serious Concern Over Possible Garda Station Downgrade’ say Cobh UDC

“Recent reports have indicated the possible downgrading of Cobh Garda Station. This is something of serious concern to the members of Cobh Town Council and the council intends to act promptly to prevent this negative development
.
This downgrade would significantly reduce the Garda presence in Cobh which would be detrimental to crime statistics in the town. With the recent closure of the district court, this would be a further marginalization of Cobh in the area of law and policing and is a development which will be strenuously opposed by Cobh Town Council. As a first step in this opposition, it was agreed at a meeting of Cobh Town Council on 5 June to forward letters to the Minister for Justice and the Garda Commissioner seeking clarification on this issue and expressing our grave concern at any potential downgrading of Cobh Garda Station. We will await a response and then decide on further action if necessary.”
