Background

The Sonia O’Sullivan Dedication Committee is a sub committee of Cobh Tourism Ltd. and has been established to celebrate the life and sporting achievements to date and to provide in her honour, a suitable memorial in her home town of Cobh, Co. Cork.

Submission and Brief:

Cobh Tourism Ltd. invites submissions for a permanent memorial sculpture for Sonia O’Sullivan, which will be located on the public path adjacent to Kennedy Quay in Cobh Town Centre.
The purpose of the memorial is to capture and communicate the determination and indomitable spirit of the woman, in a manner that will inspire both residents of the town, the people of Ireland and visitors to the area and convey the immense pride of the people of Cobh in their town’s most famous daughter.

The committee have selected the 2 images/poses that can be viewed on www.visitcobh.com and wish to see a life size piece which must be constructed in a material that will be traditional, permanent and easily maintained. The project is to include a plaque and is to include the civil work related to the installation of the piece, but not its ongoing maintenance.

It is envisaged that the total cost of the project will be in the range €25,000 – €50,000 incl. of VAT where applicable.

The format for the submission is left entirely to the artist but should clearly demonstrate the proposed piece, materials to be used, budgets, evidence of other work completed and two relevant references.
The committee will not be liable for the costs associated with submissions including samples.
Before arriving at its decision the committee may seek to consult with some or all proposers to seek clarification on any aspect of the proposals. The committee will select the piece it believes best meets the brief- which may not necessarily be the lowest cost proposal.
