Both Special Olympics and National Games take place every four years. With the National Games preceeding the world games, it allows athletes the opportunity to participate and compete at the highest level of sporting competitions in the world.
Our 2010 National Games which were held in Limerick brought together athletes from the four corners Ireland which brought in a total of 1900 athletes to the competition. I’m very please to say that Cobh has been represented by Miss Clodagh Kilcullen, Miss Jenny Deedy, Miss Geraldine Irrwin, Miss Laura Hally and Mr Darren O’Donovan, Mr Shane Mulligan Devlin. All received a civic reception recently from the Mayor Of Cobh Finbarr O’Driscoll and the twon should be very proud of Clodagh Killcullen’s selection into the Irish Team for the 2011 games in Athens.
Fundraising has now began to support these athletes and Frank O’Brien has once again been selected as volunteer for the games and as usual the athletes and volunteers are charged with funding the trip themselves and are appealing to the people of Cobh once again for assistance with fundraising.
The Special Olympic account numbers are as follows: Sort Code: 90-14-90 and Account Number: 5451183
More information can be obtained by calling Frank O’Brien on 087-7753-159
