Springfield Ramblers Match Reports 13/14th October 2012

SAT OCT 13

Gary Comerford 15 Premier
Springfield Ramblers 0 Mayfield United 3
Springfield started the match strong with chances from the offset mainly coming from Adam Horgan but they couldn’t convert these chances. They went one down early on but continued to play well with Sean Hilliard dominating the midfield with his fearless play. However the boys went down 2-0 before the end of the half. From here on, their heads dropped and Mayfield took over winning the 50-50 balls and wanting the win more. It was a quiet second half with some good play from Niall Abbott and Adam O’Sullivan. The boys had many chances to come back into the game but it never happened with Mayfield closing out the game with their third towards the end of the match. Best on the day, Adam O’Sullivan and Sean Hilliard.

Umbro 13 Division 2
Tramore Athletic A 5 Springfield Ramblers 2
Springfield Ramblers goals were scored by Josh O’Mahony and Luke Quinn.

11 Group 5
Carrigaline Hibernians v Springfield Ramblers B
This young enthusiastic group of players made the journey to Shanbally on Saturday and although second best on the scoreboard they made every effort to play football in a style that will prove effective as their development continues.

Conor Boyd and Alex O’ Connell will be delighted to have got their names on the scoresheet for the first time this season and with more practice on the training ground this team will be capable of providing a goal scoring threat from many areas of the field.

Amongst a number of Ramblers noteworthy performances was Jordan Doyle’s, whose courage to attack down the right wing was seen to good effect on a number of occasions. Not just a threat going forward, he worked hard to recover possession when the home side looked to attack. His performance typified what we look to encourage in players at this age, an understanding of team duties coupled with the freedom to express themselves without fear of making mistakes.

SUN OCT 14

11 Group 2
Springfield Ramblers A v Midleton
Springfield Ramblers played at home in Pat O’Brien park against Midleton. The game started very well with both teams playing attacking football. Jordan Dunphy went in goal today as a stand in keeper and had an excellent match. Midleton went ahead early and just before half time added a second. Springfield played well during the game and worked very hard and created many chances but a great display from the
Midleton keeper stopped us from scoring and with time almost up they got a third goal and went away with the win.

Umbro 12 Premier
Kinsale 1 Springfield Ramblers 4
Another good away win for the lads who played some lovely attacking football. A great pass from Mikey to Nathan led to our 1st goal. Diarmuid after a great run rounded the keeper to slot away the 2nd & a stunning strike from Colin put us 3 to the good at half time. Kinsale got a goal back in the 2nd half which lifted their game. Tom, Eoin & Mikey had to battle hard in midfield after that & anything that did get through was dealt with by Morgan & Cian. A slick finish by Ciaran Griffin made sure of the points. Well done to Jamie whose handling was superb all day.

Umbro 12 Division 1
Springfield Ramblers A v Tramore Athletic
This was a one sided game from the start with Tramore dominating the game throughout the pitch. Even though Springfield Ramblers fielded an understrength team due to other commitments they were never in this game even though they tried hard at times. Best for Springfield were Edward O’Mathuna who tried hard to get the team going.
Umbro 14 Division 1
Springfield Ramblers 1 Midleton 3
Springfield Ramblers lost this East Cork derby against Midleton 3-1 at the weekend. Evan O’Mahony scored for Springfield Ramblers. Best on the day where Eoin Meaney and Odhran Kidney Power.

Umbro 16 Premier
Tramore Athletic v Springfield Ramblers  – Postponed.

U17 Gussie Walsh Trophy Q-Finals
Mayfield Utd 0 Springfield Ramblers 0 – (Mayfield win 5-4 on penalties).
This was another impressive performance from the side who were much improved from last week. They started strong with Adam Devlin organising the team from his goal line. The game was tit for tat throughout with Springers slightly ahead in possession and winning 50-50 balls. The match went to extra time and they were unlucky not to score a goal as they had many chances. They were unfortunate to lose on penalties but they just seemed to not have any luck. Great performance by the entire team. Best on day James Stoat, Dean Keating, Kelvin Lynch and Danny Barry.
