U12 National Cup
Salthill Devon 0 Springfield Ramblers 3
This was a fantastic wholehearted team performance from the Springfield Ramblers side in this Under 12 National Cup tie against a very successful Salthill side. The first half was an end to end affair with the Cobh side breaking the deadlock with an Adam O’Sullivan rocket from a free kick two minutes before half time. Ten minutes after the break Adam Horgan scored and added another ten minutes later. Neil Harte was denied a fourth when his shot hit the post. Skipper Adam O’Sullivan was superb at the back while Charlie Fleming put in a great shift in midfield. The Springfield Ramblers side are now in the last 16 stage of the competition and are rewarded with a home tie against St. Brendan’s Park of Tralee.
U16 National Cup
Clonmel Town 0 Cobh Ramblers 2
Cobh Ramblers travelled to Clonmel for this Under 16 National Cup tie and came away with a hard fought victory against a very dogged home side. The Ramblers settled to their task early in the game and soon gained the upper hand in the exchanges. They were rewarded after 10 minutes when from a great delivery by Jason Abbott from a corner on the right Paul Ronan out jumped the taller defenders to direct a great header past the home goalkeeper for the lead goal. This settled the Cobh team and they continued to get the better of the play. The home side played their part in a very tough but entertaining first half and had a chance to equalise but a great shot from a Cobh clearance was brilliantly saved by Shane Hallahan in the Cobh goal
The second half was a very tough affair with the Clonmel side taking the game to the Ramblers. Gaining the upper hand they pressed hard to retrieve the game. The Ramblers side displayed great passion and commitment to keep the upper hand. The back five of goalkeeper Shane Hallahan and defenders Jason Dunphy, Marc O’Donovan Wyatt, Tony O’Donovan and Paul Ronan were outstanding in keeping the home side at bay. The midfield four Ian Murphy, Dave Curran, Jason Abbott and Lloyd Spillane chased and tackled everything that moved while the front two of Dave Cahill and Daniel Santry were tireless in their work chasing down possession and keeping the Clonmel defence on their toes
With the home side chasing the game they left some gaps in their defence in the last stages of the game. Ramblers exploited this when from a break from defence Ian Murphy was left one on one with the goalkeeper and calmly slotted home the insurance goal. The Ramblers side have now qualified for the last 16 round of the competition for the second year in a row and are rewarded with a home tie against Killarney Celtic in the next round. The club would like to extend its thanks to the Clonmel side for a very sporting game and for their kindness in providing refreshments for the team, management and supporters in their fine clubhouse after the game.
