‘Cllr Cathal Rasmussen and I met with residents of Belvelly in Cobh last night. It was very evident from water samples presented by residents at that meeting, that water quality still renders it unfit for human consumption. On the face of it, it would appear that Irish Water’s lifting of the “Do not use” notice is premature. There are outstanding issues in relation to the public health implications of lifting the ‘Do Not Use’ notice.
‘There are many questions that still need to be answered by Irish Water in respect of ensuring a safe and clean water supply to Belvelly. The residents of Belvelly have no intention at this time of using the water because they rightly lack confidence in that supply. We continue to pursue this matter with the relevant authorities.’
