The second annual ‘Great Island 10 Mile Road Race’ will take place on 17th April 2011 at 1pm. and once again it is being arranged for the benefit of the Irish Cancer Society and for Palliative Care in particular. Up to 500 runners ran through the streets and roads of Cobh and the Great Island last year and this year we expect an even bigger entry.
There are few of us who have not been touched by the scourge of cancer and statistics suggest that very few of us are likely to escape completely. Palliative care is something none of us wants to experience but it is also something that has to be witnessed to be fully appreciated. It offers cancer sufferers the opportunity to spend their remaining time in the relative comfort of their own homes surrounded by those they care most about and ensuring the dignity and privacy that only a home can offer. It is impossible to put a price on such a service. And it’s free.
While a number of fundraisers have been planned for the coming months, the main event is the ‘Great Island 10 Mile Road Race on the 17th April beginning at 1pm and a 5k walk will also take place at 12.30 pm on the same day for those less inclined to run. Sponsorship cards are available from sonyaomurphy@gmail.com and she can also be contacted on 0877904895.
A Table Quiz will be held in Rushbrooke Tennis Club on Friday 28th January at 8pm at €40 per table. For further details contact Ros at 0871327557
