Titanic 100 Cobh 2012 – Titanic Centenary New Years Day Event

Published

on

2012 sees the centenary of the Titanic’s only voyage and we will be welcoming this special New Year in with an acknowledgment on New Year’s Day.

To pay tribute to one of the biggest maritime events in the last 100 years, The Irish Navy will berth the LE Emer in Deep Water Quay, outside the Cobh Heritage Centre and it will be open to the public from 2.00pm – 4pm on New Years Day. This will be followed by a message from The Cobh Town Mayor and other dignitaries in the Promenade Band Stand and a poignant gun salute exchange from Spike Island and the LE Emer. To follow we will remember the people associated with the TItanic by releasing 123 flares from Spike Island, this number representing the people that boarded the Titanic from Cobh on the 11th of April 1912. This is an ideal opportunity for the whole family to come to Cobh, experience first hand the inside of an Irish Navy vessel and acknowledge the start of the Titanic Centenary year. For more details visit www.titanic100.ie
