On Wednesday May 15th, Walterstown N.S. held a WOW day to celebrate National Walk to School Week 2013. An Taisce Green Schools Travel Team was hoping to reach a target of 20,000 people walking to school all over Ireland on the day. The WOW day (Walk On Wednesday) proved to be hugely successful here in Walterstown as 86% of pupils either walked to school or decided to “park and stride”. Other activities to coincide with National Walk to School Week included a slogan competition and an opportunity for children to decorate a shoe or boot!
Walterstown N.S. has been promoting sustainable methods of transport for the past two years and as a result, the school has just been awarded its fourth Green Flag. Margaret Jones, Green Schools Coordinator, would like to commend the staff, parents and pupils of Walterstown N.S. for the fantastic turn out on WOW day.
