XFACTOR – About The Judges or The Contestants?

''you were great Katie but I have to look after my own act and send you home''

I remember growing up when I think the only weekly musical entertainment on television was ‘Top Of The Pops’ on a Thursday night and then the UK Top 40 on BBC Radio 1 at 1.00pm on a Sunday afternoon. Musically, they would be the highlights of the week, bar the Friday night disco at the GAA Hall and we were happy with our lot back then. However, how things have changed since those days eh! With all the musical entertainment available on the TV & Radio these days you’d hardly know if your coming or going with the amount of choice. One show though seems not to have only overtaken all others hands down, it’s without doubt taken over Saturday and Sunday night TV viewing…………….the XFACTOR

What is it, over two hours on a Saturday night and another hour on Sunday (won’t mention the repeat on Sunday morning) and for the addicts out there, there’s the immediate aftershow XTRA FACTOR!! I remember watching it a few weeks ago and it was one song, then ads and so on which is very annoying to say the least, but how creator Simon Cowell must be laughing all the way to the bank, and fair play to him, he’s worked hard enough to get to where he is today.

One thing that really struck home with me last night, although it did too before, was that the XFactor isn’t really all about getting the best talent to the finals. It appears to be all about the Judges and their ‘Egos’. Both Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole both had an act in the sing-off and both voted to send their opponets act home regardless of who was the better of the two. I mean, those of you watching will have heard Simon Cowell again last night……”you were great Katie but I have to look after my own act and send you home” and Cheryl said more or less the same thing. I personally believe that the two mentors whose acts are in the sing-off should NOT be allowed to vote and that there should be two standby Judges for this particular segment. Going on this sort of behaviour then, and lets call a spade a spade, it appears to me the XFACTOR is all about the Judges, and them getting to the final other than the actual talent on show.

Oh, and what about Wagner eh? Class act!

Slow day here at Cobh Edition!!
