The Cobh and District Showbird Society held their annual Show at the weekend in the Cobh Community College. This is their 20th Annual show and is proving to be as popular as ever with over 200 Birds in Show.
The competition attracts owners and breeders from all over Ireland coming from Cork, Munster, Arklow, Waterford, Tipperary, Wexford and even as far as Northern Ireland to name but a few. With so many different breeds of Birds entered including, many different versions of Canary, Budgeriar, Cockatiels, Doves, Finch Quail, Love-Birds, Sparrows and Parakeets the competition was fierce.
“The Birds are judged on many different standards including, feather quality, stance, condition of the Bird itself and colour along with many other aspects so it’s a tough competition. The birds also have to, if you pardon the expression, show a bit of leg.” said Dave Perryman, Member of the Society. Over 200 Rosettes were given out over the weekend amid a choir of chirping and tweeting.
Best in show went to Cobh and District club member John Kiely with his brightly coloured Orange Canary, second went to John Sherlock from Dublin and third to Tim Watson also a Cobh and District Club Member.
