The third annual ‘Great Island 10 Mile Road Race’ takes place on 15th April 2012 at 10.30am. and once again it is being arranged for the benefit of the Irish Cancer Society and for Palliative Care in particular. This year we expect up to 500 runners to charge through the streets and roads of Cobh and the Great Island for this worthy cause. A 5k walk will also take place leaving from the Community Centre on Top of the Hill at 10am. Both events will finish at the GPO.
The feedback from those taking part over the last couple of years has been extremely positive and reflects very favourably on the race itself, the scenery that Cobh has to offer and the support the runners receive from local residents. All this has combined to make this event a very enjoyable experience for all involved.
The object of the exercise is to raise as much money as possible to ensure that the Palliative Care service is available for those unfortunate enough to need it. And need it we will!
Palliative care offers cancer sufferers the opportunity to spend their remaining time in the relative comfort of their own homes surrounded by those they love while ensuring them the dignity and privacy that only a home can offer. It is impossible to put a price on such a service – and it’s free.
To ensure the availability of this service come out and support the event! Run, walk, help with stewarding or share your talent with us. Sponsorship cards are available from sonyaomurphy@gmail.com and she can also be contacted on 0877904895.
A Table Quiz will be held in Rushbrooke Tennis Club on 27th January at 8pm at €40 per table. For further details contact Ros at 0871327557.
