As a part of An Taisce’s National Spring Clean, Cobh Tidy Towns Committee in association with Cobh Town Council is encouraging everyone to get out there for the Great Island clean up on the weekends of 8th -10th and 15th -17th April.
Cobh Tidy Towns Committee is urging Sports clubs, Residents’ Associations, businesses, community groups and individuals to come out and give the Great Island a thorough Spring Clean.
We encourage children to bring their parents and teenagers to bring their friends and see what a difference can be made. Apart from visible litter, there are large amounts of pebbles, sand, mud, leaves and cigarette butts along our roads and footpaths. Brushes, shovels and many hands can make light work of cleaning up these.
A supply of coloured bags and gloves will be available from the Cobh Town Council offices. Cobh Town Council will also collect the bags of rubbish from each area. It should be noted that the Council will not remove domestic refuse or any large items such as furniture as a part of this clean up.
Cobh Tidy Towns Committee is bringing a Roadsweeper into town on 9th April accompanied by two handheld blowers which will clean footpaths before the sweeper. If a Residents’ Association would like to avail of this in their estate please contact Hendrick Verwey on 087 2593850 to discuss details. The Roadsweeper is only effective where there are NO parked cars and a contribution of €90 per hour will be necessary to cover the costs involved. This is however money well spent on long stretches of roadway with no obstacles.
