On Saturday Tony Nolan was out early picking up litter on Bishops Street and around Carrignafoy.A while back he came up with the idea of using a pop up laundry basket to keep the rubbish bag open while collecting litter. This morning he surpassed this by taking to the streets with his latest invention. Not only was the pop up laundry basket dumped in his garden some time back but he then took a broken suitcase from a family member and recycled the handle and wheels and created a little platform for his rubbish bin! Well done Tony – patent pending we presume!!!!!The students from Chill on the Hill gathered today and segregated the litter they collected for their recyling art project.Tidy Towns volunteers carried on the work of cleaning the railings along the Promenade.
2 volunteers swept along the by walls on the pavements from the top of the Laundry Hill to the old Spar derelict shop. Some attempt was made to tidy up around the shop too. In total there was 100kg of muck and dirt collected there. There was an enforcement notice posted on this premises by Cork County Council so long ago that the date and signature have faded. It called on the owner to construct a proper fence, paint the boarded up windows and repair the boundary wall. None of these were done. The building needs a bit more than that now!
Tidy towns volunteers meet on Saturday mornings at 10am by the playground on the Five Foot way and Monday mornings at 11am at the Ballynoe Inn. Please join us if you have some time.
