Cobh Pirates got another win against Waterpark on Sunday in the Munster Junior League. It was a close game in the first half, Pirates going behind 6-0 from two Waterpark penalties. But late in the half Kevin Allen toed on a low pass instead of catching and won the chase to slide over the line with the ball. The conversion was missed but Eoin Geary made up for that just before half-time with a penalty putting Pirates ahead 8-6 at the break . Pirates controlled the second half but found it hard to cross the line.
Eventually Eoin Geary slipped through a few tackles in side Waterpark’s 22 to score under the posts – he also added the conversion. He followed that with another penalty. Late in the game Waterpark got over for a try and the game ended 18-11 to Pirates. The Laya Man of the Match Award went to back-rower John O’Malley. John has been having a barn-storming season. After the match also the usual Pirates mug was belatedly presented to Gavin McCarthy to mark his marriage earlier in the year.
