It is difficult to believe that this time last year the group were organising the ploughing and harrowing of a field on the Tay road in the hopes of developing the long awaited community allotments. The allotments accommodated over 50 plot holders in the last year and the site itself has become a thing of great beauty, and a friendly hub for gardening enthusiasts. The allotments group recently held a registration night for new and existing plot holders to sign up and register their interest in joining the successful community gardening project.
To mark the beginning of the growing season a ‘grow your own veg’ course is up and running in the Cobh Family Resource Centre and the team also plan to host onsite workshops with something for everyone from the most inexperienced to the experienced gardeners. The communal polytunnel is almost fully constructed and we hope to have even more volunteers to help expand onsite facilities than we did last year.
There are a few plots still available to rent and you can either avail of the easy payment scheme through our bank account( € 4 a week for a full size allotment and €2 a week for a half plot ) or organise payment with cash or cheque. So whether you wish to plant flowers, herbs or vegetables, call Aislinn on 086 0415168 to secure your plot and get planting for the season ahead.
