National tree week runs from 6th to 13th March. It hopes to raise awareness around the importance of trees in our environment and will promote the planting and care of trees. To celebrate Tree Week ,Cobh Tidy Towns is delighted to give a tree to all of the schools on Great Island on 10th March which they will plant on 15th March to coincide with the raising of the tricolour. To commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Rising and to celebrate 100 years since the Proclamation of the Irish Republic, all schools were presented with a flag by members of Óglaigh na hEireann. The planting of a native Irish Mountain Ash tree is symbolic of our commitment to impact positively on our environment and our future.

Did you know – a single tree produces approximately 260 pounds of oxygen per year. That means two mature trees can supply enough oxygen annually to support a family of four.
